Turkish Cypriot President calls on EU to end embargo

President Dervis Eroglu of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) called on EU to end isolation and embargo, including the restrictions on freedom of travelling.

Eroglu, on Wednesday, came together with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and EU commissioner for enlargement and European neighbourhood policy Stefan Fule.

Among the issues discussed in the meeting were comprehensive negotiations to find solution to the problems in Cyprus, financial support to Turkish Cypriots, ending the isolation and embargo on TRNC, green line regulation, and the attitudes of Greek Cypriots towards Turkish Cypriots.

Eroglu said that they were imposed some embargo which affected the economy negatively, and added, “that is why we are on the side of reaching an agreement.”
