Germany’s Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said in Tunis on Thursday that “the Egyptian scenario cannot take place in Tunisia,” citing major differences in the transitional process in the two countries.
Westerwelle, who is in Tunisia for a two-day official visit, held talks with his Tunisian counterpart, Ali Laarayedh on Thursday.
“Germany follows with great attention the democratic transitional process in Tunisia,” Westerwelle said during a press conference, adding that Germany is willing to widen the scope of its cooperation to include the fight against terrorism.
He indicated that some 100 Tunisians will soon be trained in counter-insurgency techniques in Germany.
