Turkey to keep defense agreements with Egypt

Turkish National Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz received his Brazilian counterpart Celso Amorim on Tuesday and said Turkey has not planned to cancel defense and military agreements with Egypt but there is also no new plan for military cooperation with Egypt.

In a meeting with his Brazilian counterpart Amorim in Turkish capital Ankara, Yilmaz put emphasis on the importance of cooperation with Brazil and bilateral relations between two countries.

Yilmaz said the meeting would create an opportunity to discuss international and regional issues.

The minister also said he felt sorrow over the latest developments in Egypt and the violence in the country.

On the other hand, Amorim indicated that they could not interfere in any country’s internal affairs, referring the interim government in Egypt.

Amorim also said, “I hope Egypt will turn into democracy and peace as soon as possible”.
