Iraqi PM to visit India on Thursday

The Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, will arrive in India tomorrow.

Briefing newspersons on the visit, a spokesman of the Ministry said al-Maliki will be in the country till August 25.

A head of Government level visit comes after 38 years. In 1975, India’s then prime minister Indira Gandhi had been to Iraq on a state visit. The Iraqi PM will be accompanied by senior Ministers and captains of industry. The Iraqi PM will also travel to Mumbai. Iraq is the second largest supplier of crude oil to India. India-Iraq bilateral trade stands at $21 billion.
