Britain’s National Security Council backs PM on Syria

Officials say Britain’s National Security Council has backed Prime Minister David Cameron’s call for action against Syria for its alleged use of chemical weapons against civilians.

Cameron’s press office said after an emergency meeting Wednesday that the military and security chiefs “unanimously” back Cameron’s call for action. The council meets weekly and is chaired by Cameron and includes Cabinet ministers, defense chiefs, and heads of intelligence agencies, depending on the subject.

The statement says the group agrees that Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime was responsible for the lethal chemical attack last week.
