28 People arrested in Egypt over Alexandria clashes

Egypt’s state prosecution ordered on Monday the arrest of 28 people, supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, in relation to clashes that erupted on Friday in different areas of Alexandria.

They will be detained for 15 days pending investigations.

One person was killed and 11 were injured on Friday in Alexandria’s Sidi Gaber during clashes between supporters of ousted President Mohamed Mursi and the security forces.

Supporters of Mursi took to the streets on Friday to commemorate those who were killed during the crackdown on two pro-Mursi protest camps in Cairo last August.

The prosecution charged the 28 defendants of of provoking disorder, disrupting transportation and assaulting residents.
