UN chemical weapons experts arrive in Damascus for investigations

A team of UN chemical weapons experts arrived in the Syrian capital Damascus on Wednesday ahead of new investigations into the use of the banned arms.

The team, which has already confirmed the use of sarin in an August 21 attack, is expected to examine additional alleged attacks during the 30-month conflict.

US President Barack Obama on Tuesday demanded tough Security Council action against Syria as the conflict there dominated debate at the annual UN General Assembly.

Sellstrom’s team is expected to examine the alleged use of chemical weapons some 14 times in the 30-month conflict that is estimated to have killed more than 110,000 people.
