Burkina Faso’s government has adopted a bill to send 935 more soldiers to Mali under the auspices of the United Nations Integrated Mission for Stabilization of Mali (MINUSMA).
The deployment of the additional troops aims to respond to the demands of the operational concept that was developed at the time of setting up MINUSMA, the government said on Wednesday.
With the additional troops, the number of Burkina Faso’s soldiers and gendarmes deployed in Mali will reach 2,000.
During celebrations to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of Burkina Faso’s army on Nov. 1, President Blaise Compaore announced plans to send additional troops to reinforce MINUSMA.
Burkina Faso shares more than 1,000 km of border with Mali.
