Russian FM meets Syrian National Coalition

imgRussia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has met a delegation headed by the leader of the opposition Syrian National Coalition, Ahmed al-Jarba, in Moscow.

The two sides discussed an outline for a potential transitional government in Syria. Lavrov said all parties should get more involved in exchanging dialogue with each other.

“We urge our European and American partners, as well as other countries in the region, to choose the same approach. We are convinced that they should work with all sides in the Syrian conflict without exception – I mean of course political sides, and not terrorist groups.” Sergei Lavrov said.

“During the Geneva peace talks we did not hear anything from the representatives of the Syrian regime to say they intend to abide by the Geneva Communique. Nevertheless, we have publicly stated our intention to return for a second round of talks. We attach great importance to the role that Russia plays, and will play, in a future political settlement process. That’s why I thank you for your invitation which has allowed me to be here today.” Ahmed Al-Jarva, Opposition SNC Leader said.
