French President discusses Ukraine with Russian countepart

French President Francois Hollande, and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin discussed by telephone on Monday, the situation in Ukraine.

Both France and Russia insist on the need to prevent the partition of Ukraine and maintain its territorial integrity, said Hollande’s press office said in a statement.

French President “emphasized the need for a peaceful transition and the importance of ensuring the unity and territorial integrity” of Ukraine.

The former Soviet republic has been hit by a week of violence, the removal of its president and the death of 80 people – police and demonstrators – in violent clashes in the capital, Kiev.
