Romania urges faster EU integration for Moldova

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Wednesday said the only solution to guarantee the security of the Republic of Moldova was to speed up its process of joining the European Union.

Basescu told in a press conference after a meeting with his visiting Moldovan counterpart Nicolae Timofti that measures should be taken in order to prevent a situation similar to Crimea.

Moldova should in the shortest possible time get “a timeframe, a guaranteed European prospect,” he said.

Local media reported that Moldovan authorities feel their national and territorial integrity is threatened by what happened in Crimea.
