The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution that reaffirms Ukraine’s territorial integrity, condemns the referendum held in Crimea and calls its subsequent annexation by Russia invalid.
The vote garnered 100 countries in favor, 11 against and 58 abstentions while 24 countries not show.
Turkey’s ambassador to the United Nations, Halit Cevik, after the vote stressed Turkey’s belief in the importance of independence and political unity in Ukraine saying “the results of the illegitimate “referendum” held in Crimea on March 16, in violation of the Ukrainian Constitution and international undertakings, do not bear legal validity, and Turkey does not recognize the de-facto situation.”
Cevik added that “creating fait-accomplis through military means is extremely dangerous and inimical leading to negative consequences on the stability and security of the entire region.”
