Pakistan’s support for a peaceful, stabile, united and prosperous Afghanistan has been acknowledged by the United Nations when on Tuesday.
Jan Kubis, UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, acknowledged country’s important contribution towards peace and stability and deeper engagement on issues of trade, reconstruction, rehabilitation, regional and economic cooperation with Afghanistan.
Kubis was informed by the Adviser to Prime Minister on Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi that Pakistan wants to open a ‘new chapter’ in its bilateral relations with Afghanistan.
The Foreign Office spokesperson in a statement said recent developments in Afghanistan and in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations came under discussion.
Pakistan’s support for United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in dealing with issues post-2014 was also reiterated.
As foreign troops continue to exit from Afghanistan, those from the United Kingdom on Sunday, wrapped up their operation and handed over control to Afghanistan, the UN says it will continue efforts in support of Afghanistan’s peace and development.
In this regard, “the UN affirmed its commitment for continued engagement and consultations with Pakistan on all relevant issues, including economic development and refugee repatriation.”
