Pakistan’s spy agency ISI chief Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar met Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul and discussed ways to increase anti-terror cooperation.
It was second visit of the ISI chief in less than a month to Afghanistan and third since November 2014.
Lt Gen Akhtar visited Kabul soon after the Taliban attack on an army-run school in Peshawar last month that killed 150 people including 134 students.
Pakistan has said nothing on record about the visit but Afghanistan’s Presidential Palace issued a statement, saying President Ashraf Ghani received ISI chief in his office on Sunday.
They discussed ways “to strengthen the joint efforts of the two sides in the fight against terrorism and extremism,” the statement added.
They also talked about peace and security in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the region, among other matters, it said.
Last month army chief Gen Raheel Sharif and his Afghan counterpart General Sher Muhammad Karimi agreed that their commanders would begin meetings immediately to further coordinate cross-border security operations.
Pakistan believes that Taliban chief Mullah Fazlullah was hiding in Afghanistan and wants Kabul to take action against him.
Afghan leaders have said that the country will not allow militants to launch attacks on Pakistan.
