EU, NATO condemn attack in Suruc, Turkey

The EU and NATO condemned Monday the terrorist attack in the Turkish city of Suruc, which has led to the loss of many innocent lives and left many injured.
“My thoughts and sympathies are with the families and loved ones affected by this heinous act. There can be no justification for terrorism. We stand in strong solidarity with the people and government of our Ally Turkey,” said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in a statement.
On her part, EU High Representative Fedrica Mogherini said the terrorist attack in Suruc targeting young volunteers from the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF), who were gathered to go and help with the reconstruction of Ain Al-Arab, or Kobane, was aimed to further destabilise the region and communities living side by side.
“The attack adds to the pain and suffering of Syrian people fleeing violence and destruction, and of the Turkish people so generously engaged in helping them,” she noted in a statement.
“Terrorist groups will not prevail in their goal to undermine international steadfast determination to defeat them. The EU, Turkey and all other regional and international partners will work together even more closely to tackle this threat,” she added.
