Algeria supports UN efforts to resolve the crisis in Libya

Bilateral relations and the situation in the region, especially in Libya were discussed at a meeting Monday in Algiers between Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Prime Minister Habib Essid making a two-day visit to the country on hold the Tunisian-Algerian High Joint Committee meeting.
Speaking to reporters, Habib Essid said that the meeting focused on many issues of common interest, in particular the results of the 20th session of the Tunisian-Algerian High Joint Committee held from October 25 to 26 in Algiers.
He said he had discussed with the Algerian president major topical political issues at bilateral, Maghreb and internationally, including primarily the situation in Libya.
The Prime Minister stressed the convergence of the two countries positions on the need to quickly find a political solution in Libya, both countries reaffirming support to UN efforts to end the crisis in that country.
He also said that the meeting discussed “preparations in anticipation of the post-agreement period in Libya,” stressing the commitment of Tunisia and Algeria to “play a major role in that country in the current phase and the future. ”
The meeting was attended by Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, Secretary of State for African and Arab Affairs Touhami Abdouli and Algerian Minister for Maghreb Affairs, the African Union and the Arab League, Abdelkader Messahel.
The Tunisian Ambassador in Algiers and Algeria in Tunis were also present at the meeting.
