Libyan forces clash with Daesh on southeast border of Sirte

imgIn Libya, Daesh is battling to hold on to its stronghold of Sirte after forces aligned with the new unity government advanced on the city.
Security sources said they made ground in the eastern and southern outskirts, taking control of at least one military camp. This hasn’t been confirmed.
A hospital spokesman said at least six brigade members had been killed and 30 wounded in the clashes.
The units launched a counter-offensive against Daesh last month from their base in the western city of Misrata, pushing the militants back along the coastal ropaad to Sirte.
They are allied to the UN-backed Government of National Accord which has been trying to stamp its authority on Libya’s various fractious groups.
The country sunk into chaos after its veteran ruler Muammar Gaddafi was toppled five years ago. Daesh moved in to set up its most important base outside Iraq and Syria.
