Restoring security in the northern regions of Mali has been debated at the 10th ordinary session of the Agreement Monitoring Committee, held in the Malian capital Bamako on 25 and 26 July, said Malian media.
The Committee is in charge of the implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali, stemming from Algiers Process.
The meeting was devoted mainly to discuss the mechanism and procedures for the establishment of interim authorities in Northern Mali, the Operational Coordination Mechanism (MOC) and security situation in Kidal, said the sources.
An ad hoc committee will address the security issue in Kidal in the few coming days, while for the establishment of interim authorities, awareness campaigns will be conducted on the ground by the Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA) and the Platform and regarding the MOC, a battalion of 600 men will begin joint patrols as from 15 August 2016 in Gao.
In a statement to the press at the end of the meeting, the head of the Platform, Harouna said that “all parties (the Platform, the CMA, the Malian Army, MINUSMA (the United Nations Integrated Multidimensional Stabilization Mission in Mali) and Barkhane) are part of the joint patrol.”
