Cameroon to receive more refugees from CAR in 2017: UN

The number of refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR) will reach up to over 275,000 in Cameroon in 2017 due to the persistent violence in the country, the United Nations said.
According to statistics, Cameroon has received 253,000 refugees from CAR so far in 2016.
Most of the refugees came to Cameroon from the bordering districts of East Region and Adamawa Region and ran away from the crisis caused by the takeover of former rebel coalition Seleka in March, 2013.
The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Cameroonian government announced a few months ago that they signed a tripartite agreement with the CAR government for the voluntary return of the refugees.
According to the UN office in Cameroon, the implementation of the agreement seems difficult because of the continuing violence in CAR which has been forcing more CAR people to take refuge outside.
UN coordinator in Cameroon and UN Development Programme (UNDP) Cameroon Representative Najat Rochdi said recently some CAR refugees settle in camps while the others settle in local communities.
