France to re-open embassy in Libya when security conditions are met

France said on Friday it wanted to re-open its embassy in Libya as soon as security conditions permit.
Libyan officials claimed this week that Paris was mulling re-opening its diplomatic mission in Tripoli, but Foreign Ministry officials said that this would only come about if this could be done in conditions that allow the mission to function safely.
France withdrew its embassy staff to Tunis after a number of attacks on foreign embassies in the Libyan capital and following an attack on the French mission that wounded two Gendarmes.
On Thursday, after contacts with the Libyan leadership, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed full confidence in Libyan Prime Minister Fayyez Al-Saraj and called for national unity.
Al-Saraj later said Macron had promised to re-open the French embassy, which was closed after a car bomb attack in 2013.
