The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has monitored a spike in the death toll of the conflict in southern Syria, between members of the “Fifth Corps” on the one hand, and the regime-backed forces and local militiamen from Sweida on the other. 13 fighters were killed and more than 60 were wounded of the regime-backed forces and local factions in Sweida.
While more than eight members were killed and about 20 others were injured of the Russian-backed Fifth Corps during clashes, since the morning, in several locations in south-western countryside of Sweida.
Meanwhile, members of the “Fifth Corps” managed to control positions in the town of Al-Quraya, following violent clashes with local factions in Sweida. While the town of Al-Quraya is witnessing a state of alert by fighters from local factions and the regime-backed forces, amid warnings of storming the town in the coming hours.
Syrian Observatory activists have reported earlier that the Russian-backed 5th Corps members targeted with a guided missile a military post where Sweida factions are stationed in Al-Mujaymez village in the south-western countryside of Al-Suwaidaa.
Meanwhile, fierce clashes are underway between the 5th Corps and local gunmen from Al-Suwaidaa in the surrounding areas and outskirts of Al-Quraya in the western countryside of Al-Suwaidaa, near the administrative border with the eastern countryside of Daraa.
It is worth noting that the area experienced similar tension a few months ago, as SOHR sources reported in April that Tension between Al-Suwaidaa and Daraa provinces in southern Syria was escalating rapidly, especially with the worsening situations in areas in Al-Suwaidaa and other ones in Daraa since late March.
