The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has monitored a squadron of Russian fighter jets targeting ISIS positions in the Syrian desert at the Hama-Idlib-Raqqa triangle. The attack which started in the early hours of the morning and is still underway. No information has been reported on the losses.
Yesterday, the Islamic State continued its escalating activities throughout the Syrian desert, through ambushes, surprise attacks, as well as bombings and assassinations, which mainly target positions and posts of regime forces and allied militias in the region.
In this context, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has monitored renewed clashes between regime forces and ISIS members on frontlines within the Aleppo-Hama-Raqqah triangle, and the eastern city of Homs. The clashes were accompanied by shelling and exchange of fire, backed by intensive Russian airstrikes in order to repel ISIS attacks and sweep the areas under its control.
The Syrian Observatory has documented fatalities on both sides, where 19 regime soldiers and allied militiamen were killed, while 14 ISIS members were killed. The death toll is expected to rise as some injured are in serious condition, amid reports of further fatalities.
Since 24th of March 2019, SOHR has documented the killing of 1,010 regime soldiers and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, including at least two Russians, and 140 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. All were killed in attacks, bombings and ambushes by the “Islamic State”, west of Euphrates in the deserts of Deir Ezzor, Homs, and Al-Suwaidaa.
Also, four civilians working in gas fields, 11 shepherds and four other people were killed and documented by SOHR in the same period, from late March 2019 until today. They were killed in attacks by ISIS cells. While 546 ISIS members were also killed in attacks and bombardment in the same period.
