Syrian Observatory activists have reported hearing loud explosions in areas under the control of Iranian-backed militias in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. The explosions hit Al-Abbas area of Al-Bokamal where Iranian forces and their proxy militias are stationed. No further information have been reported yet about the nature and reasons behind these explosions.
On January 19, SOHR activists reported hearing loud explosions in Deir Ezzor area for the second day in a row. According to Syrian Observatory sources, the explosions were caused by the detonation of ammunition and weapons by pro-regime militiamen and other militiamen of “Fatimiyoun Brigade”, since these ammunition and weapons belonged to this militia and they were left over from previous Israeli attack on the surrounding areas of Deir Ezzor city on January 13. It is worth noting that these weapons and ammunition were damaged due the Israeli strikes, but they did not explode at that time time, which prompted the Iranian-backed militias to detonate them. Moreover, the loud explosions created a state of panic among the area’s residents.
A day earlier, SOHR activists reported violent explosions in Deir Ezzor area, as the Iranian-backed Afghani militiamen of “Fatimiyoun” were detonating remnants of war near al-Rawad area to the west of Deir Ezzor city centre.
