Chinese envoy in Kabul Wang Yu on Sunday said that cooperation between Afghanistan and China in the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative will benefit the people of the two countries.
He said that Chinese companies will be encouraged to take part in Afghanistan’s reconstruction.
Wang vowed his country’s support to Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.
“China encourages Chinese companies to activate, participate in the economic construction of Afghanistan so that the achievement of China-Afghanistan cooperation in building one Belt and One Road will benefit the people of both countries,” said the envoy.
China so far has focused on humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. Recently, a rice and wheat aid package worth $7.7 million was pledged to Afghanistan.
“We are on the verge of almost drought,” said Ghulam Bahauddin Jailani, the state minister for disaster management. “Part of this assistance was distributed last year and part of it will be distributed this year.”
China so far has provided 13,000 tons of food to Afghanistan. Meanwhile, it has provided 400,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine and a teaching complex and auditorium within the Kabul University is under construction with the help of China.
