Explosion Rocks Tanker Docked at Syrian Port City, Two Lightly Injured, Reports Say

Iranian news outlet says the ship is the same one on which a fire broke out in April, allegedly after being attacked by a drone coming from Lebanon

An explosion on a ship docked in the Syrian port city of Latakia and subsequent fire lightly injuring two people on Tuesday, according to local media reports.

The fire has since been extinguished, Syrian state television said. It was not immediately clear what caused the blast or the fire.

In April, a fire broke out on an oil tanker off the coast of Baniyas, another Syrian city, near an oil refinery, after it was allegedly attacked by a drone coming from the direction of Lebanon.

The Iranian Al-Alam TV channel reported at the time that it was an Iranian oil tanker hit by two missiles, but that report was denied by a different Iranian news agency.

Another Iranian news outlet, Nour News, said the ship was the same one that was allegedly attacked in April, the Wisdom.
