Senior Delegation From Turkey To Visit Israel Ahead of Herzog Visit to Ankara

A high-level official delegation from Turkey will visit Israel this week as the two countries prepare for the planned visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Turkey and to discuss relations between the two countries, the Office of the President of Israel and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a joint statement on Tuesday.

The statement was issued after Turkish media reported earlier on Tuesday that the visit is scheduled to take place on March 9-10. It is the first Israeli confirmation of the planned visit.

The Turkish delegation includes the spokesperson and chief advisor to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Ibrahim Kalin, and Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sedat Önal. It will be the first visit by an Israeli senior official to Turkey in over a decade. Turkey has been working to repair relations with Israel in the last couple of years. Herzog and Erdogan have spoken by telephone several times in recent months.
