A favorable environment for Iran-Russia economic cooperation has emerged since Iran’s president visited Russia two weeks ago, amidst international sanctions on the two nations
Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi during a visit to Tehran next Tuesday, the Kremlin said.
It will be only Putin’s second foreign trip since the start of Moscow’s armed intervention in Ukraine on February 24, following a trip to Central Asia at the end of June.
Iran’s state agency IRNA reported Tuesday that Raisi’s recent visit to Russia led to a positive atmosphere for an economic cooperation between Iran-Russia.
According to Chief of Economic Commission of Iran’s Parliament Mohammadreza Pour-Ebrahimi, successful agreements were reached during Raisi’s visit to Russia, opening the door to a new phase in Iranian-Russian relations and convincing Moscow of Tehran’s commitment to economic cooperation.
Russia is now more aware than ever of the need for collaboration with Iran as a result of the sanctions placed on it by the US and the EU.
U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on Monday at a White House briefing that The U.S. believes that Russia is turning to Iran to supply it with “hundreds” of unmanned aerial vehicles, including drones that may carry weapons, for use in its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
