Vjosa Osmani: Kosovo will continue to be constructive in its dialogue with Serbia

The President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani stated today in Skopje that the results of the meeting at the highest level on May 2 this year depends on the parties involved, but she added that Kosovo will continue to be a constructive party.

“The result of the dialogue also depends on the role of the mediator,” she said and added that it primarily depends on whether the talks are conducted according to the “principle of good faith”.

However, in this particular case, she said that as the president of Kosovo, she can guarantee that Kosovo will also participate in this meeting, in good faith and that it will be extremely constructive and open.

“Always protecting the sovereignty and internal functionality of the state, but also contributing to solutions that contribute to long-term peace and stability,” she said.

However, what Serbia’s actions will be, Osmani Sadriu said, can be seen from the statements of Serbian officials in recent days.

“But above all from their actions which represented a violation of the agreement reached in Brussels and the annex in Ohrid”.

She reminded that Article 4 of this agreement stipulates that Serbia will not oppose Kosovo’s membership in any international organization.

“However, their behavior on Monday in the Council of Europe, as well as lobbying against the pro-Kosovo vote, proved this flagrant violation.”

In addition, she said that illegal interference in elections is a violation of Article 2 of this agreement and at the same time acts and international legal norms that apply to all countries.

The Kosovo president, however, said that she hopes that Kosovo’s friends and allies will make sure to talk during this period and put pressure on Serbia to honor the commitments it accepted in this process.

“I think that this process was an important step in which Kosovo and Serbia are treated from the point of view of law and international relations as two equal parties in interstate relations and where both sides recognize sovereignty. Kosovo will always respect its sovereignty, integrity and internal functionality and its Constitution,” said Osmani.

She added that “those who break the law face the consequences”, answering the question about the elections in the north of Kosovo and that “therefore, all the efforts of our security institutions, which are in accordance with all the highest security standards, are to restore order and the law in the north,” she added.

The president pointed out that it is necessary to undertake hundreds of actions in the fight against corruption, crime and smuggling in the north.

“These criminal activities are organized by top criminal groups that are blacklisted by the US and Great Britain,” she added.

As she stated, the actions of the police should be intensified because the institutions are obliged to protect their citizens.

“As you know, Serbian citizens in the north are scared, threatened and blackmailed by these criminal structures directed from Belgrade”.

At the joint conference with her Macedonian colleague, Osmani expressed her special gratitude to North Macedonia for the support, as she said – “unwavering towards our country, and especially for the vote for Kosovo in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe”.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, during her official visit to North Macedonia, also gave a speech in the Assembly of North Macedonia. She said that Kosovo shares the same values and goals with this country. The common goal, as she said, is the European family.

The President emphasized that the two countries have excellent friendly relations, not only on paper but also in action.
