While Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is reportedly waiting for an invitation from the opposition to attend a session dedicated to the excavation of lithium, and during that time there are pre-scheduled obligations, until October 7, when the Speaker of the Assembly has scheduled this session by a “gatherer” the president of the Assembly, the opposition does not send such an invitation to him or is indifferent in relation to the regime’s attempts to somehow “instick” it into the parliament that day.
The answer to the question whether Aleksandar Vucic is afraid to leave the debate on this important issue to his representatives in the Serbian Parliament and in the Government, or whether the opposition is afraid of his alleged dominance, depends on who sets it up, whether the regime-controlled public opinion or that small part of the independent and unfascinated by Vucic’s public appearances.
“The president must be there to discipline them”
The government in Serbia is the arrival of Aleksandar Vucic in the Assembly turned into a story about a superhero whose arrival is expected to scatter and disperse the villains that harassed his strong apostles. The opposition is against this scenario that someone came up with somewhere, because it does not want to discuss Aleksandar Vucic and his megalomania, nor about the ability or inability of the opposition, about anything other than the benefit and harm of the Jadar Project – says Djordje Pavicevic, MP for the Green-Left Front.
If, as a president or a citizen, he wants to contribute to this dialogue, there are many opportunities and forums, he points out, it is not necessary to usurp everything and to turn every debate into a discussion about himself and his own greatness.
– The idea that he is attending the session is precisely that the debate of the harmfulness of this project to health and the environment, the debate on economic profits and whose profits, turns into a debate on the gigantic status of the president, according to the already seen scenario – says the interlocutor of Danas.
What about the lithium session?
According to him, the reasons why the president is the one who would express his opinion in the Assembly, obviously have nothing to do with the debate on this topic, he himself has repeatedly stressed his incompetency regarding these issues.
“The thing is to show his dominance over everyone, the opposition, his opponents, and especially his party soldiers, his associates, his coalition partners. Obviously, the party oligarchy does not have confidence in the morale of its army and allies, their willingness to defend the interests of those who have the interest in digging through Serbia and blindly following the set line. The president must be there to discipline them because the risks are too great for everyone this time, and the danger comes to everyone’s yard, regardless of what membership card he owns – Djordje Pavicevic concludes.
“The theme of the Assembly is the lithium, not Vucic”
According to Miroslav Aleksic, MP and president of the People’s Movement of Serbia, the topic of the parliamentary session on Monday, October 7, is the mining of lithium, the life and health of the citizens of Serbia, not the president of the state.
– This session should be useful for the citizens of Serbia, and not to make a show and a reality show that would absolutely divert attention from what is the essence. Instead of turning Serbia into a mining colony for the implementation of the Jadar project, we would deal with how much someone was sitting, when they went to the toilet, what he ate, how smart, he is powerful… – explains the interlocutor of Danas.
According to our law and the Constitution, there is a clear division of power and responsibility, he adds.
– The bill is being debated by MPs who should adopt it or not, and the competence of the president is that, if the law is passed, only to sign the law or veto it. When it comes to the roll call to the opposition who is allowed to debate it or not, it is known that I have been urging him for five years to debate on the public service broadcaster and about lithium, Kosovo and Metohija, the economy, corruption and crime, and I believe that my colleagues would gladly accept such an invitation – Aleksic notes.
He is the only one who, he says further, although he once called five opposition leaders to him one, does not have the courage to debate in public with the leaders of the opposition.
And, in 12 years in power, Aleksic concludes, he has not gathered the courage to meet and debate the opposition.
“Come or not came…”
It is clear that the progressive majority in the existing convocation did not have the courage to face the opposition without the help of the president of Serbia and the government. However they decide, we don’t care – says Pavle Grbović, MP and president of the Free Citizens Movement for Danas.
Vucic came or not came, he adds, this does not change the essence of things, which is that citizens do not trust this government and their desire and ability to ensure the health of people and the clean environment.
“It is almost an axiom and it will not change anyone’s presence at the session,” concludes the interlocutor of Danas.
The leader of the Freedom and Justice Party, Dragan Djilas, announced that the essence of all attempts by the Speaker of the Assembly Ana Brnabic and the regime deputies to avoid a session on lithium, which had to be held at the request of the opposition, before the start of the regular session of the Assembly, as announced, was not able to be attended by the President of Serbia.
There is no wolf – there is no meeting. This sentence is the essence of all their attempts to avoid the debate – Djilas said in a statement.
Vucic, who at the time of the lithium session was supposed to be held, had just arrived from abroad and went to a party on the occasion of the completion of the works at the St. Regis and Kuli Belgrade Hotel, repeatedly said that he was waiting for the opposition to attend the session on lithium, pointing out how they fear him, one of them against all of them.
