Iran Confirms IRGC Chief Killed In Israeli Strike On Tehran

Iran’s Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Hossein Salami was killed in an Israeli military strike on Tehran on Friday, reports Iranian media.

The commander of the IRGC was killed in a strike that the Israeli regime carried out in the early hours of Friday, June 13.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel’s attack, which he called the “Rising Lion” offensive, on Iran would “continue for as many days as it takes” after Israel announced it had carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites.

“This operation will continue for as many days as it takes to remove this threat,” Netanyahu said in a video statement, adding that Israel launched a ‘targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival.’

According to state news agency Tasnim News Agency, “the Israeli strikes have targeted a number of residential buildings in the Iranian capital, resulting in civilian deaths.”

The flights have been suspended at the Imam Khomeini international airport of Tehran, the agency continued.

The US said that it was not involved in the attacks.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement, “Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region. Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for its self-defense. President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners. Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel.”
