Ahmadinejad Calls for Best Relations with Qatar

A01426942.jpgIran and Qatar should have the best relations, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with the Qatari Minister of Internal Affairs, Abdallah bin Nasir bin Khalifa al-Thani here on Saturday. During the meeting, the Iranian president noted the sensitive situation of the two countries in the Persian Gulf, and called for enhanced ties between the two Muslim states.

He also underlined the need for Iran and Qatar to promote cooperation in fighting drugs, terrorism and smuggling of goods, saying that the two countries’ mutual cooperation in the said grounds could set a paradigm for regional cooperation.

Ahmadinejad also reiterated the necessity for the expansion and promotion of ties among Muslim countries, and said that deepening and bolstering of cooperation among regional and Islamic states would reinvigorate peace, stability and progress of the neighboring countries.

For his part, the Qatari minister viewed the two countries’ relations as good, and expressed the hope that Iran-Qatar ties and cooperation would further deepen and expand through increased talks and consultations by the two states’ senior officials.
