US to ship HAWK air defence missiles and T-72B tanks to Ukraine

The equipment is part of additional security aid worth over $400m under USAI.

The US Department of Defense (Dod) has announced additional security aid worth more than $400m to meet both urgent and long-term needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

As part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), the government will initiate a contracting process to procure various capabilities from the industry.

The USAI funding will be used to renew HAWK air defence missiles for inclusion in presidential drawdown packages. This will also supplement Spain’s commitment to providing HAWK launchers to Ukraine.

Tactical communications and surveillance systems, 1,100 Phoenix Ghost tactical uncrewed aerial systems, 40 armoured riverine boats, refurbishment of 250 M1117 armoured security vehicles, training, and maintenance are also included in the package.
