Iran Vows to Continue N. Progress

A00578174.jpgTEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said late on Thursday nothing would deflect the Islamic Republic from its pursuit of nuclear technology.

“The Iranian nation will never return from the path that they have chosen and they are determined and decisive to continue this path (to obtain nuclear technology),” Mottaki said.

“The United States is angry with Iran over its nuclear program but they know that the cost of attacking Iran will be very high,” he told a gathering of the Baseeji (volunteer) troops. “America has lost in its nuclear challenge with Iran.”

“Iran has no program to discuss the Additional Protocol at the parliament, and Iran has no commitment regarding the implementation of the Additional Protocol,” Mottaki said.

The remarks followed a recent report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General, Mohamed ElBaradei on Iran’s nuclear programs and activities, where ElBaradei praised Iran’s cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog agency towards full transparency of its nuclear programs and described the Islamic Republic as truthful about key aspects of its past nuclear activities.

The UN had commissioned two reports on Iran’s nuclear program – one from the IAEA director general and the other from EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

Solana is due to meet Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili in London today just hours before presenting his report on Iran’s nuclear issue to the Group 5+1 – the five permanent UN Security Council members (the US, Britain, France, China and Russia) plus Germany.
