Israeli troops killed a member of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s security force near the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah on Friday, Palestinian security sources and the army said.Palestinian security forces said Mo’tasem al-Sharif, a security guard for Abbas’s chief negotiator, Ahmed Qurie, was shot dead by Israeli forces.
An Israeli army spokesman said Sharif opened fire on troops who went to arrest him. The spokesman said Sharif was alleged to be involved in supplying ammunition to militants in the Ramallah area.
The incident took place hours after Abbas and Qurie met Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Jerusalem.
