Kosovo Prime Minister Aljbin Kurti said that the West should implement a punitive policy towards Belgrade, because, as he stated, their approach to Serbia is “soft”, reports Kosovo Online, referring to the Nationals.
Kurti stated for the Estonian media “Delfi” that “Serbia should be forced to implement the Ohrid Agreement for the normalization of relations with Kosovo”.
“The European Union should threaten Belgrade with the return of the visa regime. “She would be ready to implement the agreement immediately, because she would not dare to lose free movement without visas,” Kurti said.
According to him, the message of the United States of America should be that “the support of Serbia from the democratic West should not be taken for granted”.
When asked if the West should give an “ultimatum” to Serbia, Kurti answered in the affirmative and added that the option of canceling direct foreign investments should be considered.
“Yes, I think that harsh measures should be taken against Serbia for foreign investments. If they were threatened with withdrawal, Serbia would immediately behave in a disciplined manner and implement our agreement,” Kurti said.
Kurti said that it is a fact that the European Union and the USA support and help Kosovo, but that it is their mistake to try to “peacefully” separate Serbia from Russia.
“They want to get Serbia out of Russia with soft power, not with a whip. It doesn’t work,” Kurti said.
The solution to the problem between Kosovo and Serbia, Kurti is convinced, lies in the full implementation of the Ohrid Agreement for the normalization of relations.
As he claims, Serbia does not do that.
“I said that I would sign that agreement, and Serbia would only accept it, but without signing it. Therefore, I think there is no reason to talk about how it is possible that the visa regime for Kosovo will not be abolished on January 1. “We did everything possible in relation to Serbia,” Kurti said.
He added that “Belgrade is not interested in the rights of Serbs, but in expanding the territory”, and that it is ready to listen to anyone who does not have “territorial claims”.
“On the other hand, I am the prime minister of all citizens of Kosovo, including the Serbs. I am obliged to listen to all their demands,” Kurti said.
According to him, the bad relations with Serbia must change.
“Estonia recognized us the same month we declared independence, more than 15 years ago, and we are very grateful for that. So, we are a functional country, but relations with Serbia are not good and we have to change that,” Kurti concluded.
