On the territory of the municipality of Zvečan in the atar of the village of Banjska, the body of a third person who is suspected of attacking the Kosovo police was found today, the Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo stated this evening. The announcement followed the news published in the media that the body of a fourth person was allegedly found today.
Early on Sunday morning in the village of Banjska, a sergeant of the Kosovo Police was killed in an ambush, and two police officers were wounded. The main news in the meantime moved to clashes between masked and armed alleged attackers and members of the Kosovo Police, which lasted until the evening hours.
The Kosovo police came out last night with allegations that three alleged assailants were killed, and that two were arrested and four more people associated with this group.
Today, however, news was published in the media that the body of another attacker was allegedly found.
Referring to the allegations of prosecutor Naim Abazi, Radio Free Europe wrote earlier today that with the discovery of this body, “four alleged attackers have been killed so far”.
“We are trying to identify him because he did not have any identification documents with him at the moment,” Abazi told RFE/RL.
However, in the late afternoon hours, the Kosovo Special Prosecutor’s Office announced that today they actually found the lifeless body of the third participant, as they stated “terrorist groups”.
“The PSRK confirms that the lifeless body of the third murdered person, who acted as part of the terrorist group that attacked the Kosovo Police, was found on the spot today,” they stated.
They specified that since the murder of a police officer in Banjska, the prosecutor referred to by RSE, Naim Abazi, has been on the ground all the time with the aim of securing evidence.
The Kosovo Police of the North region also told KoSSev this evening that, according to their knowledge, three lifeless bodies of the alleged attackers were found.
The deputy commander of the Kosovo Police in this region, Veton Eljšani, explains that two bodies were found last night, but not the third one, although, as he says, it was known that this person was also killed.
“We knew another one was dead, but we didn’t find him yesterday. We found him today, and yesterday two others,” Eljšani told us.
Also this afternoon, Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Dželjalj Svečalj, said that, according to official information from the police, three bodies were found.
However, he added that “according to security information, they know that there are more.”
