Bush Unable to Correct Mistakes

A011290214.jpgTEHRAN (FNA) US President George Bush is making hasty efforts to correct his abundant mistakes in this last year of his presidency, but he won’t succeed in doing so, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Alireza Sheikh Attar said.

Speaking to reporters in a press conference in Mexico on Saturday, Sheikh Attar pointed to threats posed to Iran by the US president, and said, “The Bush administration has always threatened to continue sanctions against Iran, which is, of course, a policy followed by previous US administrations as well.”

He reminded that Iran has expanded ties with the outside world and reconstructed the country despite the various sanctions imposed on the country throughout the years following the Islamic Revolution, and said, “Bush is seeking to make up for his several mistakes very hastily in this last year remaining from his presidency, but he will not at all be able to do so.”

The official also pointed to the recent visit to the Middle-East by Bush to rally regional support against Iran, and said, “Iran enjoys extensive political, economic and security ties with Arab countries and attendance of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the recent heads-of-state summit of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) in Doha displayed a symbol for these good relations.”
