A member of the National Guard forces was killed in Sweida, following renewed clashes between the National Guard of the spiritual head of the Druze community, Hekmat al-Hijri, and the internal security forces of the Syrian Ministry of Interior, in the western countryside of the city, on Friday morning, January 9.
Enab Baladi correspondent in Daraa reported that the clashes began at dawn today and lasted for several hours, in the axis of the town of Majdal in the western countryside of Sweida.
In turn, the director of the Public Relations Office in the province of Sweida, Qutaiba Azzam, said that the clashes between the two parties began at dawn on the axis of the town of Majdal and the transport company in the western countryside of Sweida.
The result of the clashes is killed and a number of wounded in the ranks of the National Guard, on the other hand, there are no injuries or deaths in the ranks of the Internal Security, Azzam explained.
For his part, a civil source in Sweida, Enab Baladi reported that the Internal Security Forces began firing mortar shells on the opposite side of them in the countryside of Sweida.
He confirmed the death of a member of the “National Guard” forces, and the injury of a member, after the firing of shells, and then began clashes between the two sides using heavy machine guns, according to the source.
While the National Guard issued a statement accusing the Syrian government forces of carrying out a series of field violations, including the firing of mortar shells and shootings from heavy machine guns caliber 23 mm from the direction of the town of Mansoura towards the northwestern axis of the city, in addition to the use of sniper weapons, killing one of its members.
A group of government forces also tried to infiltrate towards one of the points in the town of Majdal, taking the territory of the town of Al-Mazraa as its base, after carrying out several attacks by drones, according to the statement.
The statement confirmed that the “Guards” forces were able to thwart the entire attempt, as a vehicle was damaged, and the field situation was installed on all axes.

Two members of the Interior Ministry’s Internal Security Service and a third member of the National Guard in Sweida were killed during clashes between the two parties on December 23, 2025.
A civilian was also killed and eight wounded in Sweida province, according to information reported by local sources in the province.
Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Daraa reported two members of the “Internal Security” who were killed in the village of Rima Hazem, in the western countryside of Sweida, after targeting by local factions.
The forces then responded to the targeting site, resulting in deaths and injuries among members of local factions, the reporter added.
The director of public relations in the province of Sweida, Qutaiba Azzam, told Enab Baladi that the factions are the ones who started violating the agreement, by targeting the internal security forces with the drone, which led to two deaths.
Two local sources from the people in Sweida, denied to Enab Baladi the validity of the government narrative, and stated that the Internal Security Forces targeted the town of Atil with indiscriminate mortar shells, killing two people, one of them from the “National Guard” forces of the spiritual head of the Al-Muhawdi Al-Druze community, Hekmat Al-Hijri, and the second civilian dead, in addition to several injuries.
Afterwards, local factions launched a “retaliatory” attack on internal security in the village of Rima Hazem, the two sources explained.
The province of Sweida has been witnessing a difficulty in the solution, since the events of July 2025, and the stationing of factions supported by Sheikh Hijri within it, and government forces on its borders and in its western countryside.
