Russian Official: Iran Not a Regional Threat

A03588531.jpgTEHRAN (FNA)- Iran is not considered a threat to the region, Russian Defense Attaché in Tehran Col. Viktor Lobanov said here on Tuesday.

“Iran has never attacked any country, and its military equipment are not considered a threat to regional countries and even the world,” Lobanov told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of military attaches in Tehran on the eve of Iranian Army Day, a Tehran Times report said.

Asked about the US defense shield in Eastern Europe, he said confronting threats from Iran is only a pretext because the Islamic Republic has never been a threat to any country.

Washington is trying to station interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar system in the Czech Republic to allegedly protect against missile strikes from some countries including Iran. However Russia is strongly opposed to the plan
