Iran to Mark Oil Industry Centennial

A0092175.jpgTEHRAN (FNA)- Iran has announced plans to hold celebrations around the country to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of its oil industry.

“Celebrations will be held within the oil and gas sector in addition to public awareness programs presenting the industry’s past activities through films, photos, and sporting events,” press tv quoted the head of the Commemoration Headquarters for the 100th Birthday of Iran’s Oil Industry, Hojjatollah Ghanimifard, as saying on Sunday.

“National events will also be held, with the possibility of including special international gatherings,” he added.

On May 25, 2008, the first centennial of Iran’s Oil Industry will come to an end.

Exactly 100 years ago on that day, oil was struck for the first time in the Middle East at Masjed Soleyman in the oil-rich Khuzestan province.
