KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) – Turkey will ask Malaysia’s main opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to leave its embassy in Kuala Lumpur as soon as possible, Malaysia’s foreign minister said on Monday.
Anwar is seeking refuge at the embassy saying he feared for his life after he was accused of sodomising a young aide, allegations he says were cooked up by the government.
“The ambassador will try to get Anwar Ibrahim out as soon as possible, as soon as convenient,” Foreign Minister Rais Yatim said after meeting Turkish Ambassador Barlas Ozener.
