Italians to Help Restore Cyrus Tomb

A0055655.jpgTEHRAN (FNA)- A team of Italian experts is to conduct a restoration project at the tomb of Cyrus the Great in Pasargadae in Iran’s Fars Province.

The team, which has also collaborated with Iranian archeologists in documenting the structures of Bam city, will arrive in the country after Iranian cultural heritage officials send them the details of the project in August 2008.

“Italian experts will arrive in September 2008 to restore the site and its museum collections,” head of Iran’s Office for Global Heritage, affiliated to ICHTO, Abdolrasoul Vatandoust was quoted by press tv as saying.

Archeologists are concerned that the tomb of Cyrus the Great is threatened by moisture from the nearby Sivand dam.

As the founder of the Achaemenid dynasty, Cyrus the Great is remembered for his tolerance, his noble attitude toward all conquered nations and his declaration of the first Human Rights Charter.
