TEHRAN (FNA)- A top Iranian diplomat called for new laws to prevent disrespecting religious sanctities on the pretext of freedom of expression is needed.
Iran’s deputy foreign minister for Europe Mehdi Safari made the remarks in a meeting with the Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Moller, referring to a series of sacrilegious cartoons published earlier in Danish newspapers.
Per Stig Moller noted that one of the ways for preventing insults to religions is through holding dialogues among experts of different religions and cultures, press tv reported.
Safari also emphasized on further cooperation between Iran and Denmark, particularly in the economic arena.
He attributed the decline in trade relations between Iran and the European Union to EU’s wrong policies vis-Ã -vis Iran.
“The Asian countries have benefited much from the reduction in trade volume between Iran and the European Union member-states,” said the official.
The Iranian envoy asserted that Iran could be a good trade partner for the EU in the energy sector.
