Imposing sanctions on Russia pointless: Medvedev

A050464211.jpgMOSCOW (Reuters) – Any state which decides to impose sanctions on Russia over its military intervention in Georgia will suffer symmetric losses, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday.

“We know what sanctions are. Sanctions are a double-edged sword. It is pointless to apply pressure on the Russian Federation with the help of sanctions,” Medvedev told a gathering of Russian business leaders.

“If someone does try to impose sanctions, we understand that the losses will be symmetric in nature. That is hardly what any one wants,” Medvedev said.
