Ahmadinejad Invited to Iraq for 2nd Time

A01175373.jpgTEHRAN (FNA)- For the second time during his tenure, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been officially invited by his counterpart to visit Iraq.

Head of Iraq’s Presidential Office, Nasir al-Ani said that the Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has sent official invitations to a number of his counterparts including Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Turkey’s Abdullah Gul and Lebanon’s Michel Suleiman as well as Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to pay a visit to the country.

This is the second time that the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been invited to Iraq, press tv reported.

Ahmadinejad made a landmark visit to the country in March 2008, during which he met with Iraqi officials including Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and President Jalal Talabani.

Ahmadinejad’s trip to Baghdad was the first by an Iranian leader since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, signaling a new era of close relations between Tehran and Baghdad.
