Iran: Financial Crisis Shows Limits of US Power

TEHRAN (FNA)- The financial crisis is the result of “mistakes” by the United States and shows the limits of Washington’s power to influence world events, Iran’s parliament speaker said Tuesday.

“The financial crisis has damaged the credibility of the claim by the US that they’re able to manage the affairs of the world,” Ali Larijani told reporters on the margins of the 119th assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva.

“In our view, the present crisis has to do a lot with the mistakes made by the US,” said Larijani, who was speaking through an interpreter.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last week blamed a lack of attention to religion and God for the crisis in global financial markets.

“Their economy is collapsing… the reason for their defeat is that they have abandoned faith in God and piety,” Ahmadinejad said in a televised speech.

The repercussions of the credit crunch are “evidence that God’s promise is being delivered, that tyrants and corrupt (people) should go and be replaced by the pious and believers,” he said.
