Romania, Serbia, Hungary to hold meeting of FMs

BUCHAREST

Foreign ministers of Romania, Serbia and Hungary will gather on Saturday for the fourth ministerial meeting in Timisoara in western Romania. The meeting will be attended by Romanian Foreign Minister Cristian Diaconescu, Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic and Hungarian Foreign Minister Balazs Peter.

They will focus on issues such as cooperation in the Danube-Cris-Mures-Tisza (DCMT) Euro-region, future strategy of the EU in the region of the Danube, and energy security, Romania’s foreign ministry said.

Diaconescu will reiterate his country’s willingness to continue to support Serbia’s accession to the EU, as well as that of other states in the western Balkans.
Romania will also support cooperation projects in energy, environment and transportation, as well as trilateral partnerships in tourism, culture, education and health care.

The Romania-Hungary-Serbia trilateral was launched in 2003.

The DCMT Euro-region was set up in Szeged, Hungary in 1997. Its objective is to promote cooperation among local communities and authorities in fields such as economy, education, culture, health care, science and sports, as well as cooperation regarding the European integration of Serbia.

For the year 2009, the DCMT’s presidency is held by Romania’s Timis County Council.
