TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Zimbabwean Foreign Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi said that Tehran and Harare enjoy consolidated political and economic relations at different levels.
Speaking to reporters in a joint press conference after a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki here on Sunday, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi described the two countries’ relations in all political and economic areas as strong and desirable.
Noting the two states’ joint commission, he said that both sides are striving to further develop mutual ties and cooperation.
Mumbengegwi also mentioned that the visit to Iran by his president is aimed at further consolidation ties.
He also pointed to Zimbabwe’s rich resources, and stated that due to its extensive knowledge of engineering and technical know-how, the opportunity is available for Iran to conduct more economic activities in Zimbabwe.
The top diplomat further pointed out that Iran is capable of running extensive activities in the different spheres of mining and tourism industries to develop the two sides’ joint economic cooperation.
To conclude his remarks, the Zimbabwean foreign minister mentioned that the two countries can expand their cooperation in marketing and trade.
Following intensive discussions by the two countries’ senior officials in the course of two days of Iran-Zimbabwe joint commission meetings, the two sides are scheduled to endorse several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) as soon as Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe arrives in Iran at the head of a high-ranking delegation tonight.
The visit takes place at the invitation of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
