Croatia: Justice minister appointed UN Secretary General assistant

Croatian Justice Minister Ivan Simonovic was appointed assistant to UN Secretary General Bank Ki-Moon.

Simonovic will be in charge of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay in New York.

Ivan Simonovic is the first to be appointed on this position, which was opened in the end of 2009. This is the highest post occupied by a Croatian national in an international organization.

The Croatian justice minister was selected among 128 other candidates.

Simonovic was Croatian ambassador to the UN for six years and was deputy chairperson of the UN Economic and Social Council.
