TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- The two Iranian guests of the Iraqi President Jalal Talabani who were kidnapped by the US troops were released Friday morning.The two diplomats who were on an official visit to Iraq at the invitation of President Talabani were handed over to the officials of the Iranian embassy in Baghdad.
Iran’s ambassador to Iraq, Hassan Kazemi Qomi said the kidnapped diplomats were released in the presence of Iraq’s National Security Advisor.
Qomi also lashed out at the US troops for having violated the political and international norms and the Geneva Conventions, and added, “Following the arrest of the two diplomats the Iranian embassy officials in Baghdad launched extensive efforts to follow up on the case and we officially urged the Iraqi government to act responsibly to set the two diplomats free.”
“We also demanded the Iraqi government to call for the urgent freedom of the two from US detention,” he continued.
The diplomat also continued, “The US troops denied the arrest of the two Iranian diplomats at first, but after intensive efforts by the Iraqi officials, they had to take the responsibility and release the two diplomats.”
